  1. Mass in C minor, 'The Great' K427 - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  2. Te Deum - Marc-Antoine Charpentier
  3. Concerto Grosso No 7 in B flat Op 6, HWV 325 - George Frideric Handel

This concert brings together two joyful works from the baroque and classical periods of musical history, both of which were written to mark significant events:one personal and onee national. The third work is by way of a musical interlude employed by Handel himself. Mozart's C minor Mass is considered to be his finest setting of the Latin mass although he never completed it. It was first performed in Salzburg after the birth of his first child and his wife, Constanze, was one of the soprano soloists.

Handel's Concerto Grosso in B flat is probably the most attractive of a set of twelve which make up Opus 6 and can be compared to J S Bach's Brandenburg Concertos.

It is not clear when Charpentier composed his famous setting of the Te deum but it seems most likely that it was written for the celebrations which followed the victory of the French Army at Steinkerque in 1692 against the combined English-Scottish-Dutch-German army und William of Orange. Charpentier marked the event by adding trumpets and drums to his orchestra. The Prelude is familiar as the signature tune of the European Song Contest but the whole work is full of memorable music.
