Tim Horton presents a follow-up to his cycle of Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas with a series of Schubert’s six greatest sonatas, interspersed with music by those he influenced.

The Sonata in A minor was written in 1826 and dedicated to Archduke Rudolf of Austria, one of Beethoven’s most important patrons. Schubert wrote after the first performance that “several people assured me that under my fingers the keys began to sing. If this is sincere, it makes me very happy since I cannot stand the wretched hacking which is typical of even excellent pianists, as it pleases neither the ear nor the heart!”
