  1. A night on the bare mountain - Modest Mussorgsky
  2. Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No 4 in G minor Op 40 - Sergey Rachmaninov
  3. Scheherazade Op 35 - Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov

We’re delighted to open our season with one of the great Russian orchestras, the Saint Petersburg Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra are joined by the distinguished British pianist Peter Donohoe, who will be performing Rachmaninov’s elegiac 4th Piano Concerto, which he composed towards the end of this life. This will be preceded by Mussorgsky’s dramatic Night on a bare Mountain and the concert will end with Rimsky Korsakov’s evocation of the Arabian Nights stories, Scheherazade – an opulent, exotic musical confection which has become one of the most popular orchestral showpieces since it was composed towards the end of the 19th century.

There will be a pre-show talk for this concert.
