After initially meeting in the mid 90s in Portugal whilst studying with Cuban composer Leo Brouwer, Argentine Guitarist Luis Orias Diz and Welsh guitarist Adam Khan recorded their first CD 'Interludio' in Buenos Aires in 2006 for the Guitar masters label. The disc included Leo Brouwer’s complete guitar duo’s as well as music by British Composer John W Duarte and Argentine composer Walter Heinze all of whom had been former teachers of the duo.
Wag duo gave their first performance together the same year at the Mar del Plata guitar festival in Argentina and it was during this trip that they decided to concentrate on the music of Wales and Argentina exclusively and began to research the story of the Welsh settlers in Patagonia and how they built up a community based on their roots in Wales.
The duo have sought out composers from both countries and commissioned them to write and arrange works for guitar duo, to date these have included Stephen Goss who arranged a beautiful set of Welsh and Patagonian folksongs and Dafydd Bullock who wrote a large multi movement work called 'Voyage to Patagonia' which is a musical description of the Welsh settlers long and difficult journey from Wales. The duo performs music from all over Argentina including tangos from Buenos Aires and exciting folk music from the north of the country including works by Astor Piazzolla, Alberto Ginastera, Fernando Millet and Marcelo Coronel.
They made their début as a duo in Lima, Peru, and have gone on to perform extensively throughout Argentina at many important music festivals and events including a concert at the Welsh Chapel in Gaiman which is the originally settling place of the imigrants. The duo have performed many concerts in the UK including at the Welsh Eisteddfod and Monmouth festival in Wales and more recently they have begun giving concerts in Europe including festivals in Germany and France.
Wag duo has appeared on television in Argentina and broadcast live for BBC radio in the UK.
