The Primrose Piano Quartet was formed in 2004 and is named after the great Scottish violist William Primrose. Alongside their performances of the major repertoire, the Primrose Quartet have researched the forgotten legacy of 20th century English composers, and have revived a number of remarkable and unjustly neglected piano quartets.

Brahms wrote his C minor piano quartet whilst living in the Schumann household, and the first movement contains coded references to Clara Schumann. Giovanni Bottesini is now a name known largely to double-bass players, as a virtuoso and composer for their instrument, but he was also highly regarded in 19th century Italy as an opera composer and conductor.
