Ukrainian-born Dinara Klinton studied in Moscow and at the Royal College of Music, where she was the first holder of the College's prestigious Benjamin Britten Fellowship. Her performance of Liszt's Transcendental Studies was described by Andras Schiff as "astonishing ... a real virtuoso", and her recording was selected by BBC Music Magazine as Instrumental Choice of the Month. Nikolai Medtner, a pianist-composer in the mould of Rachmaninov and Scriabin, moved to Britain in the 1930s; his Sonata romantica was premiered in Glasgow in 1931.
