  1. Upon Silence - George Benjamin
  2. Le Marteau sans maitre - Pierre Boulez

George Benjamin’s work employs many remarkable techniques to imitate the sound of a viol consort, while Boulez creates a fusion of sonorities that owes much to non-western music; both composers’ word-setting is just as original and striking.

The Theseus Ensemble is comprised of some of the UK’s leading young professional instrumentalists. We are enthusiastically dedicated to the exploration of the labyrinths of modern music, and to sharing our discoveries with our audiences. Our work focuses on repertoire of the late 20th and 21st centuries, and through concerts and education projects we are committed to drawing connections between music and other areas of the arts, science and nature.

The Theseus Ensemble’s patron is Pierre Boulez, and its Founder and Conductor is Geoffrey Paterson.
