  1. Geranos - Brian Elias
  2. Verses for Ensembles - Sir Harrison Birtwistle

Theseus celebrated his triumph in the Labyrinth by inventing the Geranos, a dance whose gestures represent mazes. Brian Elias imagines a music that might have accompanied this dance. The labyrinthine structure of Birtwistle’s visceral work is illustrated by the movements of the players around the stage.

The Theseus Ensemble is comprised of some of the UK’s leading young professional instrumentalists. We are enthusiastically dedicated to the exploration of the labyrinths of modern music, and to sharing our discoveries with our audiences. Our work focuses on repertoire of the late 20th and 21st centuries, and through concerts and education projects we are committed to drawing connections between music and other areas of the arts, science and nature.

The Theseus Ensemble’s patron is Pierre Boulez, and its Founder and Conductor is Geoffrey Paterson.
