  1. Ruy Blas, overture for orchestra Op 95 - Felix Mendelssohn
  2. Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in E minor Op 85 - Sir Edward Elgar
  3. Symphony No 8 in G Op 88 - Antonín Dvorák

So close to Valentine’s Day, ‘if music be the food of love, tonight’s programme offers a sumptuous feast! Inspired by Victor Hugo’s tale of the ill-fated love between a commoner poet - and an aristocratic lady, Mendelssohn’s Ruy Blas overture opens the evening with high drama. The Liverpool Mozart Orchestra is then delighted to be joined by Manchester Camerata’s principal cellist and internationally renowned teacher Hannah Roberts in Elgar's peerless and sublime Cello Concerto, one of his most romantic works. The evening concludes with Dvorák's lyrical penultimate symphony, in which his fascination with Bohemian folk melodies is clear to hear and enjoy. For this concert the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra warmly welcomes to conduct the orchestra for the first time the new RNCM Junior Conducting Fellow and international violinist Sergej Bolkhovets.
