Eight of the world's leading youth choirs perform Jonathan Dove’s humanist cantata There was a Child.

The concert is hosted by the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, who present the first half of the programme.

Dove's There was a child was written to commemorate a life tragically cut short. In the composer's words, it creates 'a radiant vision of a child absorbing everything around him and connecting with the whole world'.

Standing as a successor to the choral masterpieces of Walton and Britten, and featuring texts by Shakespeare, Keats, Tennyson and Walt Whitman, the cantata offers an uplifting expressive vehicle for the combined ensembles.
