The Duo von Alven-Mantovani was born in 2016 and benefits from the possibilities of the unusual combination between the regular 6-string guitar and the expanded range, 8-string Brahms-guitar. The German and Brazilian guitarists joined forces to explore both the extensive original repertoire for guitar duo and their own transcriptions and arrangements.

German guitarist Nelly von Alven has been a prizewinner in national and international competitions such as the International Twents Guitar Competition (NL), Barmenia Competition (GER) and Gevelsberg International Guitar Competition (GER). Nelly recently won the first prize at the “RCM Guitar Competition 2016“. Her extensive performance experience includes concerts at the Internationales Bergisches Gitarrenfestival, Bielefelder Gitarrenforum, Internationale Giessener Gitarrentage and the Gitarrenfestival Ruhr, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. She has been a Yehudi-Menuhin-Foundation “Live-Music-Now” scholarship recipient and currently holds a “Musician’s Company Lambert Studentship”. In 2015 Nelly released her debut CD, “Canto spirituoso” for Fibonacci Records, with music by Rossen Balkanski, Miroslav Tadic, Sérgio Assad, Simone Iannarelli, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and her own compositions. Nelly is a graduate of the University of Music Cologne under Gerhard Reichenbach and currently pursues a Master’s Degree at the Royal College of Music in London, where she studies with Gary Ryan and Chris Stell.

A winner of the Pro Musicis International Award in New York, Brazilian guitarist Luiz Mantovani has performed for 12 years with the Brazilian Guitar Quartet, with whom he recorded three CDs, including the 2011 Latin-Grammy winner “BGQ plays Villa-Lobos”. He has commissioned and premiered a number of pieces by contemporary composers such as American David Leisner, Brazilian Liduíno Pitombeira and Israeli Lior Navok, whose Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra was premiered in 2010 with the Israel Sinfonietta Beer Sheva. A faculty member of the State University of Santa Catarina in Florianópolis, Brazil, Luiz holds an Artist Diploma and a Master’s Degree from the New England Conservatory in Boston and a Bachelor’s Degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He is currently pursuing a doctorate at the Royal College of Music in London, where he investigates the chamber music of Ferdinand Rebay. His guitar teachers were David Leisner, Nicolas Barros and Antonio Guedes.
