On Sunday 14th September Norwich Pops Orchestra will present the Hall of Fame 2008, featuring some of the best loved pieces of classical music of all time. We are particularly pleased to welcome Jeanine Thorpe (Violin) who will join us for The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams and the Adagio from the Bruch Violin Concerto.
Recently seen on Classical Star on BBC2, Jeanine has already played with many leading orchestras here and abroad. Her success in 2002 in winning a leading violin competition in Romania marked her out as one to watch for the future, especially as she was only 13 years old at the time! Since then she has been much in demand as a concerto and recital soloist, and we feel very fortunate in securing her services for this concert. A violinist of pure tone and great virtuosity, she is surely a star of the future. Catch her while you can.
Also featuring in this concert are pieces that have proven to be immensely popular ever since they were composed. Music that stirs, excites and stimulates the senses. Who can resist the joy of Beethoven’s Pastoral theme returning after the storm in Beethoven Symphony 6? The puff your chest out heroism of Jupiter from Holst’s Planets including I Vow To Thee My Country? The serene melody of the Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana, and how about the triumphant and exultant last movement of Saint-Saens Organ Symphony featuring the towering organ of St Andrew’s Hall? These extraordinary pieces will all be played by the 70-strong Norwich Pops Orchestra under their dynamic maestro and compère – Geoff Davidson. It sounds difficult to miss, so don’t.
