The Philharmonia Orchestra is at the heart of British musical life. Its international reputation continues to attract the cream of Europe’s talented players from which the Soloists are drawn. This year the Soloists are branching out, taking the same high quality music to venues across the UK.
Kenneth Smith on flute has won many admirers for his individual tone and quality of sound. Christopher Cowie previously played principal oboe in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and in the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. Barnaby Robson’s interest in original instruments has led to performances with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the English Baroque Soloists. Meyrick Alexander has been principal basoon with the Northern Sinfonia and with the Philharmonia Orchestra; he is committed to new music. A chorister at New College, Oxford, Laurence Davies studied the French horn at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, then pursued a busy freelance career before joining the Philharmonia Orchestra. Concerto soloist, solo recitalist and chamber musician, Tom Poster has been described as an unparalleled sound-magician (General-Anzeiger) and a pianist of distinction (The Times). |
