The Castle Howard ‘Proms Spectacular’ sponsored by The York Press and the UK’s premium ice cream specialist, Carte D’Or – as part of a national 2008 Summer Proms and Smooth series on Saturday August 16th has become the UK's biggest 'Last Night of the Proms' style concerts in the UK. It offers concert-goers an unforgettable evening of popular classics, flag-waving fun and a truly amazing show stopping firework finale, all mirrored in the Great Lake.
The ever exuberant showman Jae Alexander returns to conduct the English National Orchestra through an evening of popular classics, movie themes and all the Proms favorites, including 1812 Overture, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope & Glory. Jae will be joined this year by star soprano Janet Mooney and talented Welsh tenor Wynne Evans. Also back by popular demand is pilot Flt Lieutenant Charles Brown, who will be performing a dramatic aerial display in an original WW2 Spitfire. Special guest and pre concert performer at Castle Howard this year is the legendary Jon Lord, founder member of Deep Purple & renowned worldwide as one of the UK’s most exciting classical composers and performers. The Keyboard wizard behind Smoke On The Water and Child In Time - Jon has recorded and performed with some of the World’s premier orchestras and will definitely make a very welcome addition with his band Gemini as a pre concert warmer to the main event!
