The Hallé, resident orchestra at the Sheffield International Concert Series, bring us a concert of great power and emotion in their first visit of the season. Opening with Brahms’ powerful Tragic Overture and ending with Tchaikovsky’s Pathetique Symphony, his final major work, of which he said I have put my whole soul into this work. Mozart said of his 15th piano concerto and its partner no 16 K451 (both written within a week in 1784) that I really cannot choose between the two of them...Both...are bound to make the performer sweat.
