The Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Choir

Note: Incorporated into the Mass liturgy, there will be a joint performance by the Schola and the Metropolitan Cathedral Choir of Westminster Mass by Roxanna Panufnik, a beautiful and haunting work (chamber setting with tubular bells, organ and harp).

The London Oratory School Schola is coming to Liverpool by special invitation. One of the country’s leading liturgical and commercial boys’ choirs, it has been invited by Liverpool Hope University to give a concert to mark the joint work of the late Bishop David Sheppard and Archbishop Derek Worlock. In addition to its performances at both Liverpool’s great cathedrals, it will give an evening of English choral music at The Cornerstone, Hope at Everton, at 7.30pm on Saturday 13th September. Admission by ticket only, see separate entry.

The Schola, a choir 55 strong, is directed by Lee Ward, himself a Liverpudlian. The Schola’s weekend visit will be very much in the ecumenical spirit for which the two bishops were so well known: in addition to performing at this mass, the Schola will also sing at Evensong at 3pm on Sunday 14th September at Liverpool Cathedral, see separate entry.
