Scottish Chamber Orchestra Strings Christopher George, director
Programme
:
Sir Edward Elgar
1:
Serenade for Strings in E minor, Op 20
Pyotr Tchaikovsky
2:
Souvenir de Florence, Op 70
Note:
There is more to this programme than meets the eye. Sure, it offers two of the most popular of all works for strings in a single, early evening concert. But what adds a bit of extra savour is that both were written at the start of the 1890s. Tchaikovsky was a senior figure, Elgar, a promising young talent. If Elgar’s youthful spirit sings out in every note, Tchaikovsky gives him a good run for his money in the sheer breathless excitement of Souvenir de Florence.
