When: Tuesday 14 October 2008 at 18:00
Where: St Cuthbert's Church, Edinburgh
Concert Title: CL@SIX - String Serenades
Performers: Scottish Chamber Orchestra Strings
Christopher George, director
Programme :Sir Edward Elgar
1:Serenade for Strings in E minor, Op 20
 Pyotr Tchaikovsky
2:Souvenir de Florence, Op 70
Note: There is more to this programme than meets the eye. Sure, it offers two of the most popular of all works for strings in a single, early evening concert. But what adds a bit of extra savour is that both were written at the start of the 1890s. Tchaikovsky was a senior figure, Elgar, a promising young talent. If Elgar’s youthful spirit sings out in every note, Tchaikovsky gives him a good run for his money in the sheer breathless excitement of Souvenir de Florence.
