Charity concert in aid of the Union Chapel Willis Organ. Shean Bowers is Founder and Director of Purely Choral. Previous to this he was Organ Scholar at Liverpool Cathedral, having been both a Chorister and the holder of its Neilson Organ Bursary. During his time as Neilson Bursar, he studied organ with Professor Ian Tracey. In 2001 he gained a full scholarship to study the Organ with Daniel Moult and singing with Martin Bussey at Chetham’s School of Music, and did so for the duration of his A-Level studies. Whilst at Chetham’s, Shean played as both soloist and as part of Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra. He was also founder member of the Chetham’s Barbershop Quintet, who sang for Prince Charles on his 50th birthday. He then gained a place on the year-in course at the Royal Academy of Music, London, studying the Organ with Professor David Titterington and Choir Direction and Conducting under Patrick Russill. Whilst there he played in master-classes taken by Nicolas Kynaston, Patrick Russill, Nigel Alcoat, William McVicker and Helmut Deutsch. During this time, he was Assistant Organist at All Saints Church, Poplar. Shean has also appeared as soloist with many other Orchestras, most notably with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert of the Preludes and Fugues of J S Bach, an area of music in which Shean has a great love and passion, and a concert celebrating the works of Haydn and Mozart in which Shean played Mozart Epistle Sonatas and Haydn Concertos. Shean has given recitals in many venues including: Liverpool Cathedral, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, St George’s Hall, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Manchester Cathedral, Chester Cathedral, Newcastle Cathedral, Blackburn Cathedral, Oundle School Chapel, Marylebone Parish Church, Victoria Hall, Hanley, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, St John’s College, Cambridge, Christchurch Priory and Altenberg Abbey, Germany. Recitals next year include; Cologne Cathedral, Bonn Cathedral and a return visit to Altenberg Abbey, Germany. Shean at present is studying the organ with Dr Noel Rawsthorne and will commence his Conducting lesson with Dr. David Hill in September 2007. Shean holds the diploma of Licentiateship to Trinity College London with Distinction (LTCL). His other posts include director of Music St Saviour’s church, Oxton, director and founder of Cantores sine Nomine, organist to Liverpool Hope University and deputy Organist at Liverpool Cathedral. |
